Inquiries welcome. 212-226-2114 --------------------------- --------------------------- Seminar: SENSUAL ALCHEMY: SPIRITUAL BELLYDANCE with DUNYA NEW YORK CITY Sunday April 24th 4-7pm Mary Abrams Movement Resources 10 East 18th, 4th floor (buzzer: Mary Abrams) Elegant Embodiment & Development in the Sufi Subtle. We'll begin the workshop with a period of Fluid Yoga to open and relax our bodies, then progress into the beauty and mysticism inherent in dance traditions originating in the Middle East by pursuing a somatic interior root of the form’s intricate isolations and trance-y rhythmic substrata. We'll look inward, feel the sensation in our bones & tissues, gravitate towards absorption in interior spaces beyond our minds. Middle Eastern dance - ornamental mudras, vibration, undulation - is specifically suited to this self-amplification. Through the emerging internal openings, Sufi lineage energetic materials are manifest. The heart center flowers, mediating our voyaging in the Subtle. All periods of action are intertwined with deep resting. Relaxation, Rejuvenation, Peace. Please bring towel to sit on and a hip scarf. This is the second in a series. Put on medium tempo music that is repetitive and non-intrusive. Or be in silence. Sit or stand. Close your eyes. Let yourself quiet down. Observe your breath. Just watch what it is doing. Let your body begin to move in any way it wishes but keep your focus on the breath. The breath and the movement may not coincide or obviously emanate from one another. That is fine. Remain focused on the breath as you move. Stay with this for 20 minutes. The breath focus will come and go. That is fine. Keep bringing yourself back to you breath. Any motion your body chooses to do is fine. Just be with the breath and the movement. You are learning how to not interfere with your body. It will be interesting to observe the correspondences, or lack of, between the breath and motion. Afterwards, either lie down and let your mind rest, or let you mind relax as you move in any way that feels right at the moment. --------------------------- --------------------------- Concerning Recommendations In the January Enews the Recommendation for Mercan Dede was incorrectly listed as ‘Reading’. It is a wonderful ‘Music’ offering – a two-CD set. --------------------------- --------------------------- Testimonial of the Month Hi Dunya, That was such a great workshop. I still feel different…I went to a different space while whirling. There was a sense of intimacy, like I was being revealed while experiencing myself and spirit. Old and new. Sparkly and serene. I appreciate how you lead a variety of experiences that are interesting and fresh, in such a beautiful space. It feels great to have spiritual experiences that are safe, expansive and enriching. Thank you. Love, Ann Galkowski, physical therapist, Newport, RI --------------------------- --------------------------- And that is the end of our newsletter. Thank you very much!
