This course investigates spinal micro-motion as initiation into inward journey. In the opening exploration we progress through a specific sequence of tiny movements. The attentive focus on line-of-movement and its accompanying sensation carefully treads into the 'no-man's-land' of developmental and primordial motion that underscores both Middle Eastern dance vocabulary and our somatic animal source. This process assumes we best access our body's wealth by resting our receptive attention on messages and personal mythologies that manifest as motion. Thus we will immerse ourselves in the process of awakening our spine's natural motion through 'allowing' and evocation rather than forcing movement. Using minimal poetic verbal suggestion, non-verbal cues as well as a steady, rich blanket of musical inspiration we'll delve inside the spine's dream-world, staying closely attuned to its centrality both in wave/undulation, vibration and other oriental arabesque motifs - a restorative journey expanding intuition and creativity. We unlock the interior sensory vault in part to uncork exterior freedom, but also to enjoy self-accompaniment. The progression, like slow, non-urgent sex, embraces pleasure, edge, sweetness, intimacy, connection, the unexpected. Dear Dunya, I attended your workshop in Cambridge and absolutely loved the micromovements of the spine. I shared that with my clients in Pilates classes and had interesting feedback. My own story with the micromovements is impressive. I tried it a few times since the workshop and had a discomfort-free, shorter period, one week earlier than expected. It was amazing. I usually have lower back issues prior to and the first few days of my period and it didn't happen this time. I really attribute it to the micromovements because that was the only change. Many thanks, Annemarie McNeil
