The Artist Reception celebrates Transformations: Forms & Energies in Flux with an interdisciplinary collaboration between painter Anne Tcherepnin and choreographer/dancer Dunya McPherson. The program includes viewing the exhibition, a live dance performance with projected dance films, and a conversation with the artists following the performance.

Transformation unfolds in moments of tension, release, and emergence.
Transformations: Forms & Energies in Flux explores the threshold where one state becomes another—where stillness becomes motion, light shifts across a landscape, a calm sky gathers into storm, or a body moves from quiet presence into expressive action. Through painting, dance, and moving image, the exhibition invites us to notice the subtle energies that animate both the natural world and our inner lives.
Though working in different artistic mediums, Anne Tcherepnin and Dunya McPherson share a fascination with change, impermanence, and the living forces that shape experience. Together, their work creates a dialogue between painting and movement, inviting viewers to witness transformation as both an outward and inward journey.
The Paintings
Throughout September and October, Anne Tcherepnin’s richly expressive oil paintings fill the UUFalmouth Atrium with luminous landscapes and evocative studies of horses, birds, and the human figure. Working in a painterly, impressionistic style, she captures the changing qualities of light, atmosphere, and movement, revealing nature as a world in continual transformation.
A Dialogue in Painting & Movement
Created especially for the Artist Reception, Dunya McPherson’s performance extends the exhibition into the language of movement.
Drawing on live dance and projected dance films, McPherson explores the dynamic interplay of stillness and motion, presence and absence, form and energy. Together, the artists reveal the invisible forces that animate both landscape and body, creating an immersive experience in which painting, movement, and projected image become a single expressive field.

Anne Tcherepnin
Artist Statement
“Capturing the light is everything. It is always the light that I remember most about any location, figure, or still life. Its elusive quality transforms what we see, and I strive to convey that sense of place by capturing its fleeting magic. My favorite teacher, Terry Dunn, repeated one simple instruction: “Paint the light!” That lesson has stayed with me throughout my life.
Living on Cape Cod, I find endless inspiration in the marsh grasses, the ocean and ponds, the damp, salty air, and the ever-changing sky. My paintings are about the pleasure of seeing—discovering the colors within shadows, the glow of light, and the countless variations of green in the landscape. Sometimes I simply sit and look out my window, allowing the world to reveal itself through light.
Dunya McPherson
Dunya McPherson, BFA, MA, is a choreographer, performer, educator, author, and founder of Dancemeditation™. Juilliard School graduate and National Endowment for the Arts Choreography Fellow, her performance integrate movement, contemplative practice, and artistic inquiry.
Her work draws from the visceral language of Japanese Butoh, modern dance lineages, and the mystical movement traditions of Sufism to create performances of striking beauty, presence, and depth. For Transformations: Forms & Energies in Flux, live dance is interwoven with projected dance films shot in natural and architectural landscapes, expanding the dialogue between body, image, and place.
A Sufi Master Teacher in the Shattari lineage, McPherson’s work explores the meeting place of art and contemplative practice, inviting audiences into experiences of imagination, mystery, and transformation.
